Summer gets the reputation of being a bright, fun season. But we would argue that autumn can be just as exciting, especially when it comes to making glamorous interior style statements. Living room design for the coming season is about taking advantage of the changing colors and light of the season, with softer ochres coming to the fore, along with clever use of layers and textures.

So let’s overview the new trends for autumn living room design!

Traditionally autumn is associated with mustard and burnt orange tones but this year we’re seeing a fresh new palette take over.

Blue Tones

Blue has emerged as the color of the season in various tones and shades ranging from muted powdery blues through to rich dark navies. It seems our culture of constantly seeking newness has resulted in fresh color palettes this season – most of which incorporate blue.

Materials

When it comes to materials, this autumn it’s all about diversity. Rich textures, such as velvet, are more popular than ever, particularly as the old Hollywood style is trending. Natural materials that foster a sense of coziness, such as wool, are also perfect for this time of year. You can also combine materials for a layered look, such as in this entry where a large black round velvet cushion has been combined with a woven basket and a flat weave wool rug.

Violet Undertones

You probably heard that Ultra Violet has been named as Pantone’s 2018 Colour of the Year. This bold color can be too intense for many so it seems some brands are giving it their own interpretation – taking inspiration from the color but finding subtle ways to incorporate it.

Concrete accents

We had a concrete overdose several years ago when the industrial style was at its peak but now it seems we’re ready to embrace this material in more subtle ways once again. Think concrete features rather than over the top large-scale uses of concrete.

White Wash

There’s no doubt that white is a great base color, often making a space look fresher and bigger.

Vintage Rugs

Rugs are an easy way to add texture and depth to your home. Interior designer, Rian Smith suggests that this season, vintage is the best way to go. “Vintage rugs are making quite the name for themselves. They come in so many colors, sizes, and patterns. What’s so amazing about these rugs are that their natural worn beauty makes them functional and timeless.”
