Fox-Nahem Associates is a small, hands-on organization that cares about its clients. Many clients return for subsequent projects once we use judgment to preserve their privacy. Joe Nahem’s brilliant eye is revealed in new ways with each job. His design signature is his ability to delve deep into his clients’ minds, realizing their ideas, desires, and individual tastes, right from the first contact. The end result is a house for active families that is luxuriously comfortable, stylish, and livable: places that reflect the people who live there.

Joe and his late business partner, Tom Fox, were born and raised in New York City and founded Fox-Nahem Associates n their early twenties. After three decades of expertise, Joe and his dedicated team have established a network of loyal partners that assist them in bringing their creative designs, which are unique to each project, to reality. He curates rare vintage artifacts and collaborates with artists, craftspeople, and artisans from all over the world, changing with the times without succumbing to trends. Hand-loomed fabrics from Switzerland, handmade woven rugs from South Africa, and wonderfully constructed metal furniture from Brooklyn have all been commissioned.
Fox-Nahem has been included in a number of top design lists, including the AD 100, Elle Decor A-List-Top 25, New York Magazine’s Top 100, New York Spaces Top 50 Designers, and Luxe Magazine’s Gold List, in addition to features in most major design journals and several books on interiors.
Fox-Nahem Associates took a fairly “vanilla” undistinguished room and elevated it by adding layers of architectural and finish detail for a NYC full-floor apartment owned by a second-time client. Plaster wall finishes, fluted walnut paneling, and new bathrooms were supplemented by custom-created and found vintage pieces, which eliminated any generic, spec-apartment quality that may have existed previously.
A young, energetic family sought Fox-Nahem Associates to remodel the interiors of their vast, historic Greenwich home to more truly reflect their current interests, which included a significant contemporary art collection and extremely conventional furnishings. This 10,000 square foot home was meticulously cleaned from top to bottom. FN expertly produced a highly personal space marked by elegance, timelessness, and a splash of fun by seamlessly mixing refined vintage pieces, unique designs, and commissioned artisan pieces. Finally, FN achieved a nice equilibrium between art and interior design.
3. Gramercy Park Penthouse
Fox-Nahem Associates designed a Gramercy Park penthouse for a single father that is as exquisitely made as a bespoke suit and just as comfy.
Joe Nahem was honored to work with a young family on upgrading this unique coastal property after being a student of Joe D’Urso’s. Nahem and his team focused on natural fibers and textiles to integrate effortlessly with a neutral palette, drawing on what he learned from D’Urso.
This new penthouse was built atop NYC’s renowned Puck Building, designed by architect Jose Ramirez. Fox-Nahem Associates was tasked with rearranging the spaces and creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for a young family.
Annabelle Selldorf and Fox-Nahem Associates were enlisted by a New York gallery owner and his family to design a Hamptons retreat where their blue-chip art collection could shine.
East Hampton Beach House was designed and built by Joe Nahem in collaboration with Steve Chrostowski of Alveary Architecture.
For the Fox-Nahem Associates team, the opportunity to tackle “New Traditional” in one of NYC’s most prominent buildings was a welcome one. The idea was to create a place that seemed lighter and more contemporary while still keeping the formal grandeur that the space was designed to have.
Paul Rudolph redesigned this historic nineteenth-century mansion in the 1970s. The new owners enlisted Fox-Nahem Associates to work with Steven Harris Architects on a total gut renovation that preserved much of Rudolph’s original design character.
Working with a developing young family on their fourth project together, Fox-Nahem Associates was able to give a drab, typical spec-house on Long Island’s East End personality and wit, complete with new kitchen and baths, an extended living room, and a master suite. Fox-Nahem Associates designed most of the upholstery and accented the interiors with odd vintage pieces from Sweden, Brazil, and the United States, in addition to the architectural revamp (aided by Alveary Architecture). Due to their hectic schedules, the clients asked FN to complete the project by sourcing paintings, linens, dishes, and cutlery and handing over a fully furnished “turn-key” home.
